DORA AKUNYILI OPENS UP ON THE DANGERS SHE FACED WHILE IN OFFICE

Mrs Dora Nkem Akunyili

Dora Akunyili, the former Director of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) opened up to The Sun on the dangers she encountered while in office. She explained what she, her family and Staff went through  because of her fight against fake drugs.

She lamented that  ‘They would write letters, make phone calls, call my husband and tell him that ‘if you don’t caution your wife, she may not come out of this job alive.
‘They came to my house one night, beat my cook almost to pulp, repeatedly asking him: where is she? They ransacked everywhere. If I had slept in that house that night, only God knows what would have happened’,

She also mentioned that there was a time she saw tortoise in her office but with the help of her assistant it was removed after the sprinkling of holy water.
During these times her family members kept pressure on her to resign, Mrs Dora finally gave up the sit of service in 2008 and thereafter took up an appointment in the Yar Adua administration as the Minister of Information and Communication.
